Meeting local Community Heroes at the Speaker's House

I was really chuffed to be invited by local MP Sadiq Khan to attend to a 'Community Heroes' event at the Speaker's House in Parliament last week. It was a fantastic opportunity not only to see a bit of Parliament that not many people get access to, but also to meet some of the people behind the stories I feature here on Go Earlsfield. It's great to put a face to a Twitter name!

Community Heroes
There really are many people in Earlsfield (and Tooting and Wandsworth) who go above and beyond to help local people and celebrate our neighbourhood. I was delighted that the Summerstown 182 won an award recognising the project's contribution to what we know about Earlsfield's history and the people who lived here.

So thanks to Sadiq for hosting a great event, the Mayor of Wandsworth for turning out to celebrate local volunteers, and the Speaker, John Bercow MP for the use of the rooms.

If you know a local hero and think they deserve more recognition, or a local charity that could do with a boost, leave a comment here or on Facebook, or get in touch via Twitter or email and I'd be happy to feature them on the blog. After all, that's what it's all about.

  1. Many congratulations to the Summerstown 182 team: a thoroughly well-deserved win.
