Councillors will tonight vote on proposals to set up a community running event in Wandsworth. Following a petition to bring parkrun to Wandsworth, officers have recommended a six month trial period. Councillors will tonight discuss whether to agree the proposals.
The paper being discussed recommends:
"(a) a meeting be held by officers with the Parkrun and petition organisers in order to:
(i) agree a six-months’ trial of Parkrun events in a suitable location in the Borough;
(ii) consider grant-aid funding, to be met from existing revenue budgets for physical activity, to an equivalent level of the proposed annual charge;
(iii) confirm that any events will conform to the Council’s usual Terms and Conditions, including ensuring that any event and participating numbers are managed and controlled safely; and
(b) a report be brought back to a future meeting of the Executive/Committee detailing the outcome of that meeting and, subject to there being a satisfactory outcome, the proposals for staging Parkrun events in the Borough on a trial basis (with a review being undertaken at the end of the trial, which would include establishing the extent to which the event was successful in terms of promoting physical activity to newcomers)."
If you want to watch the debate, head along to Room 123 in Wandsworth Town Hall at 7.30pm tonight.
