The proposal is open until this Thursday for comments, so if you have strong feelings either way, you can view the planning documents and submit your thoughts via the council website.
There has been a lot of change in Earlsfield recently and it's important that we can take advantage of new life on Garratt Lane while not becoming an identikit any-high-street. It can be done - people in Richmond worked with Tesco to persuade them to install a much more attractive storefront than usual. Make sure you get your comments in before Thursday.
Fantastic news, hopefully open late as well
ReplyDeleteNo, don't want Tesco, want a little Waitrose....
ReplyDeleteGo away Tesco, we don't want your rubbish...
ReplyDeleteawful, that will be 3 tescos in about a mile long stretch of the lane
ReplyDeleteEarlsfield needs a little M&S or Waitrose not another Tesco......
ReplyDeleteSad that Tesco feel they can barge in and chuck another identikit store up when all other (independent) businesses have bothered to refurbish their premises in keeping with local history. And we don't need another Tesco, we already have 2 servicing the local area... badly at that, they are two of the worst stocked shops I have ever been into
ReplyDeleteI agree. Please no Tesco. A mini Waitrose or M&S maybe but I'd much rather the council and local community support a new, independent shop, business or cafe.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
DeleteWe don't need any more of little, mini anythings. Lets encourage a local market economy please!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. Too many coffee shops and beauty places in Earlsfield and not enough places to buy groceries. A butcher, greengrocer and a fishmonger would be amazing.
DeletePeople, remember that this is a local blog informing us of the situation. While it is good to see that most people object, your comments on here alone will not change anything. You need to click on the link provided in the article above and object to the proposal on the council website by tomorrow. This is thee only way this can possibly be stopped if it isn't already too late...
ReplyDeleteYes indeed - lots of people have added their comments to the council site so make sure yours are included: https://planning.wandsworth.gov.uk/WAM/showCaseFile.do?appType=planning&appNumber=2014/5313
ReplyDeleteA really good butcher perhaps! Not another supermarket chain!
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree! We don't need any more supermarket chains! Butcher/ Greengrocer would be great!
DeleteDont want cheap and nasty Tesco crap. Prefer Waitrose Mini or M&S. Earlsfield is decent, we dont need Tesco dragging it down.
ReplyDeleteClearly not our first choice for a new shop in Earlsfield, but it looks to be a damn slight better than the existing Londis and takeaway that are there currently.
ReplyDeleteIf we can't have independent FOOD shops - no coffee isn't a food - then I'd rather have Lidl or an Aldi than a rip-off store such as Waitrose or M&S.
ReplyDeleteAny update on this?? I agree. Please no Tesco. A mini Waitrose or M&S
ReplyDeleteAmong the good local shops in Garratt Lane that greedy Tesco is to supplant is Mackenzies the newsagents and general store, the only shop within miles that delivers newspapers. Its imminent closure to make way for yet another third-rate mini-supermarket is a disaster, especially for us octogenarians with dodgy knees and hips.
ReplyDeleteThe loss of Mackenzies is heartbreaking. Real people. Good luck and good bye, if you're reading this.
ReplyDeleteWhen is McKenzies closing? It is sad to see it go. Any news on whether Tesco is still planning to open in place of Londis - perhaps with their awful financial report it was one of the new stores they had to pull?
ReplyDeleteWhat is happening to all the empty shops along there now, has Tesco's been cancelled? There is definitely demand for a Waitrose or M&S, it would do the area good, as long as no more estate agents!
ReplyDeleteMcKenzies was utter rubbish. It permanently had a smashed window and was very tatty. Sad that a local business has gone down but lets be honest, it was pretty rubbish.
ReplyDeleteWaitrose would be my preference but having a tescos there will suit me very well. Let the gentrification continue!
I also heard on the earlsfield grapevine that the owners of McKenzies are getting the rent from Tescos so they're pretty happy about it.
ReplyDeleteThe renovations are so damn loud in the morning, I live in the building opposite the delivery entrance at the back and had been a pain for the past month
ReplyDeleteSo is Tesco coming to town after all?
ReplyDeletewe don't need another mini supermarket but what should be in that spot that is vacant where the brasilian restaurant/premier shop was is a large deli/cafe, there is nothing towards wandsworth after the station and there should be as there are a variety of food places and cafes going towards tooting, better than it standing empty, at least it will provide local jobs.
ReplyDeleteThis is very informative blog. Thanks for sharing this kind of blog. very useful blog. Keep sharing. Thanks.
